The Story

Governors Pub & Eatery is known as one of the best Cape Breton restaurants, offering a menu filled with incredible seafood and steaks, delicious contemporary versions of hearty Irish classics and a vast international selection of imported and local drafts and beer.

Every item is made from scratch, right down to the hand-cut fries, freshly made bread and scrumptious desserts baked daily. Because when you’re cooking for family and friends – both old and new – Chef Ardon and his culinary team wouldn’t have it any other way.

We had reservations for Valentine’s Day for four(4) under “Lee” for 5:45PM. We have dined at fine restaurants in several countries but our supper this evening was equal to, or better than any we have ever enjoyed! I had the Sizzling Seafood Trio in a cast iron pan with Beef Tenderloin and my Wife had the same appetizer with Halibut. Both meals were outstanding and the service provided by our server Keelie, (hope I spelled her name correctly),was superb! She is a true professional! Thank-you Governors and your staff for a wonderful and truly memorable Valentine’s Day! Our table companions were similarly positively impressed, and of course we will all be returning. We are customers of long standing, and will remain so.

I just want to say, hands down best meal I have ever had. The mussels were perfect, best piece of fish I’ve ever had, the sauce was Devine, and I could keep going. Good afternoon, I just wanted to send a quick note to let you know that I had a wonderful experience at Governor’s today. My sister and I brought her two toddler aged sons in for a late lunch around 2:00, and your staff was fantastically accommodating. The kids had a wonderful time dancing to the music, and they loved the food. I didn’t catch the name of our server, but she was so good to the boys. It can be difficult to find nice restaurants that are also child friendly, so I will certainly be recommending yours to others! Thanks again,

Our evening at Governors was a highlight of our trip to Sydney. We loved the stew and fish and chips. Well done. We had had an emotional day saying good bye to our family home and burying our parents ashes so an evening with you all was just the RX. Thanks again, WONDERFUL evening. We had a blast.

Just returned to my home base in Halifax after escorting a very successful group media fam in CB. One element of our five days was a lunch with Chef Moffat at Govenor’s Pub and it just so happened to be a cruise ship day. What a glorious way for cruise passengers to get a true feel for Cape Breton hospitality, in song,food & a wee beverage. The great thing too is it is located directly across from the cruise terminal. We did try Ardon’s rum cake, awesome ! He told us this was his father’s recipe he got when he once lived on one of the islands. We Merrytimers love our rum, so it’s a natural marriage. Also had a ‘cold water shrimp’ dish, beautiful Mabou oysters, plus his ‘pulled pork’ sliders that were outstanding. Actually can’t say anything wasn’t beyond good. Like many chefs in this province Chef Moffat is sourcing local and the quality of food is outstanding. Oh, yes they had Big Spruce Brewery’s ‘ Regatta Red’ on tap, so do try a wee pint for sure. Cape Breton looks forward to welcoming you both to our island. Cheers,
