Mike McKenna Jr. & Jordan Musycsyn- Thursday August 4th

Aug 2016

Mike McKenna Jr is a soulful and often haunting balladeer, with a unique grit and power in his voice, a folky rhythm to his guitar playing, and an authenticity in his stories that has captivated listeners in his native Maritimes and around the North American folk community.

With a Nova Scotian mother and a father from Boston, Mike was significantly influenced by two working class cultures — the strong historical relationship between Nova Scotia and New England is evident in Mike’s music; his raspy, warm voice is reminiscent of a folky, Sweet Baby James era James Taylor, or the power of Ray Lamontagne; but his tales of tragic sea voyages and lost lovers are a throwback to the nautical-themed traditional songs of Canadians like Stan Rogers and Gordon Lightfoot.

A masterful storyteller, Jordan Musycsyn, writes songs about life and love with humour and pathos. Whether drawing on his own life experience with the humorous songs such as, “GST,” “Mountain Fry Lullaby,” and “Winein’,’’ or his heavier songs of love and loss and the human condition, such as “Didn’t Back Then,” and “Runaway Lane,” and “Young Wanda,” Jordan moves the audience from laughter to tears and back again.

His old school brand of Folk-Country has been compared to the likes of Neil Young, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty and John Prine.

Jordan has performed at Stan Rogers Folk Festival, Evolve Music Festival, showcased at East Coast Music Week and Nova Scotia Music Week, as well as being a featured performer in the highly sucessful “Cape Breton Summertime Revue: The Next Generation”

Jordan is presently in the studio putting the finishing touches on the followup album to his critically acclaimed debut “The Pitch” Expect a late 2016 release.
