Campbell Woods with Rob Murphy- Friday August 18th

Aug 2017

Campbell Woods sings soft songs about hard luck. Writing songs rooted in the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, his style is tried and true, but he’s no dinosaur. You’ve heard it all before, but not like this.

Campbell Woods’ songs call to mind Townes Van Zandt, and show the influence of mentors like Lynn Miles and Al Tuck. Story songs, road tested and time worn, resonate with familiarity. Instrumentation using mellotron, Wurlitzer, vibraphone and pedal steel in innovative ways make it all feel contemporary yet universal, even when the subject matter is one hundred years old. A genuine, honest delivery creates a sense of being a part of each song as it comes. Woods’ vocals remind you of John K Sampson or early, solo-acoustic Luke Doucet. Teardrops on the Table, a duet with Jadea Kelly, full of longing and sadness is worth the price all by itself.

Joining Campbell Woods will be local singer-songwriter Rob Murphy.
