This Week at Governors- Feb.21st to 25th
Every Tuesday evening until Feb.28th Governors Pub will be offering an extra incentive for local musicians looking to be heard. With the help of our weekly host Mike LeLievre and local music tech Devin Farrell (of D.E.A.F. Audio), the weekly open mike sessions will be recorded for a future CD and a web hosted promotional project. The open mike sessions which began in May 2011, have been highly successful with the local music community.

Wednesday Feb.22nd, Colin Grant will host the weekly Celtic music session in the pub at 8pm. All local Celtic musicians are encouraged to attend and join in the session. Facebook event here
Thursday Feb.23rd, The Pranks make their return to the pub after a long hiatus. The Pranks are a 4 piece rock band recommended for fans of Lou Reed, Exile on Main St-era Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, The Black Keys, White Stripes..in general if you like rock n roll, you will enjoy the Pranks. 
Joining them will be award winning songwriter Jay Smith. Jay is probably best known locally as the frontman of Cape Breton rock band Rock Ranger or as the guitarist for Halifax’s Matt Mays and El Torpedo, but he also an accomplished songwriter having won ECMA’s and been nominated for a Juno Award for co-writing with Gordie Sampson. He’s also written songs with Jimmy Rankin, Steve MacDougall (of Slowcoster), Dustin Bentall and Carleton Stone. Facebook event here.
Friday Feb. 24th, folk blue grass quintet Heartwood Slacks will be joined by Summers on Vacation and Colette Deveaux for a night of entertainment Facebook event here. 
Saturday, blues rockers Jon Hines Trio will be joiend by Misty Thicket for a show not to be missed. Jon Hines is a Cape Breton singer/songwriter heavily influenced by monster musicians such as Rush, Led Zeppelin, Don Ross, Andrew White. Jon has been threw a few lineup changes over the years and played with many talented musicians. He is now hooked up with a solid foundation for a rhythm section in Josh Boudreau on bass and Dale Landry on drums to help him contribute to the songwriting on the new album. The Jon Hines Trio are currently working on his second album to date which is scheduled for release later in 2012. Jon’s unique style of guitar playing is gaining him a reputation as a guitar player, or “guitar man”, and the band’s rhythm section is very talented in helping lay down funky grooves and bluesy riffs while maintaining a strong dynamic in the bands sound.
Joining the Jon Hines Trio on this evening will be Misty Thicket, an alternative bluesy rock quartet made up of John Paul Bergeron (guitar, vocals), JB Goode (guitar) Nick Digou (bass) and Sean Lewis (drums).
Misty Thicket had its’ origins jamming out of a house in the Cape Breton harbour community of South Bar; Misty Thicket create music that appeals to anyone and everyone- blending traces of the blues grunge and sixties psychedelia into irresistable soulful songs that groove and rock at the same time. Misty Thicket is an ambitious working band who have already been heard on radio stations across the maritimes via their appearance on the syndicated radio program “East Coast Countdown”. They are presently in the process of laying down tracks at Smashbox studios for their first album; while all the while looking to play and playing shows in Cape Breton and across the Maritimes.
